Vishwamitra Brief #009: G7 Oil Release, Iraq Withdrawal, Mars Water, Magnetar Candidate and Pompeii

Vishwamitra Brief Issue #009 | 4 October 2026 The week offered a useful test of how claims survive contact with evidence: a G7 oil release, an American military exit from Iraq, attacks on Kyiv's bridges, and new measurements of Mars, a neutron-star merger and Vesuvius. By Santhosh Vishwamitra Strategic Briefing The G7 agreed on 2 October to coordinate the release of 100 million barrels of crude and diesel through the International Energy Agency over four months, with a substantial diesel release front-loaded into the first 20 days. The more revealing figure is 75 million barrels. The IEA said that 325 million barrels had been released from the 400 million barrels pledged in March. It remains unclear whether the new G7 release includes that outstanding amount or comes on top of it. This issue covers 28 September to 4 October 2026. Washington and its allies argued over fuel, the last US troops left Iraq, and Russian strikes damaged Kyiv's bridges. At...

Trump Says Iran Is "About to Surrender." Iran Says It is ready for USA ground invasion. Here's What's Actually Happening | Inside Stories

Trump told G7 allies Iran is "about to surrender." Iran's new Supreme Leader vowed revenge, kept Hormuz shut, and threatened to open new war fronts. I will tell you what I think is actually going on.

What Trump Said

On Wednesday, March 12, Trump held a virtual meeting with G7 leaders hosted by French President Macron. According to three officials from G7 countries briefed on that call, Trump told allied leaders Iran is "about to surrender." He boasted about Operation Epic Fury and said he had "gotten rid of a cancer that was threatening us all."

On Friday, March 13, he posted on Truth Social calling Iran's leaders "deranged scumbags." He said it was his "great honor" to kill them. He demanded "UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER" in capital letters. When Axios asked him what that means, he said: "Unconditional surrender could be that they announce it. But it could also be when they can't fight any longer because they don't have anyone or anything to fight with."

Read that last part again. That is not a ceasefire condition. That is not a diplomatic outcome. That is the language of total annihilation. And it is coming from the same man who won the presidency partly on an anti-war platform.

What Iran Did Next

Iran appointed Mojtaba Khamenei, 56-year-old son of the slain Supreme Leader, as its new Supreme Leader. The IRGC backed him hard. Trump had previously told Axios that Ali Khamenei's son would be "unacceptable" to the United States. Iran went ahead anyway.

Mojtaba Khamenei's first public statement, read out on state television Thursday, did not mention peace. He vowed to avenge Iranian "martyrs." He said Iran would open new war fronts "where the enemy has little experience and is highly vulnerable." He ordered the Strait of Hormuz to stay closed. Oil surged past $100 a barrel. The Dow fell nearly 900 points on Friday after Trump's unconditional surrender post.

Foreign Minister Araghchi is preparing for a possible US ground invasion. Iran's IRGC pledged full obedience to the new Supreme Leader within hours of his appointment. Iranian diplomats publicly rejected Trump's offer of switching sides, saying they remain committed to the Islamic Republic. More than three million Iranians have been displaced. The regime has absorbed 14 days of US and Israeli bombardment across nearly 2,000 targets. It has not blinked once.

Washington's own intelligence services concluded the Iranian regime is not close to collapse, even after 13 days of bombing. I covered this before Trump's G7 call. Read: US Intelligence Says Iran Government Not Near Collapse

Trump's Own Words Contradict Trump

This is the part that gets me. On the same G7 call where Trump said Iran is "about to surrender," he also told allied leaders: "Nobody knows who is the leader, so there is no one that can announce surrender." That is a contradiction inside a single conversation. You cannot claim your enemy is on the verge of surrender while simultaneously admitting there is no functioning leadership left to actually surrender.

It gets stranger. Secretary of State Marco Rubio told Arab foreign ministers on Thursday that the US goal is "not regime change" but also insisted Washington wants different people running the country. France's Macron came out after the G7 call and publicly said no one on the call could tell what Trump actually wants. Two officials briefed on the call described Trump as "ambiguous and noncommittal." Some allies left thinking he wants the war to end quickly. Others left thinking the opposite.

Meanwhile the Revolutionary Guard said Iran will not allow "a single liter of oil" through Hormuz until US bombing stops. The strait, through which roughly 20 percent of the world's oil normally passes, remains essentially shut. No tankers. No resolution.

My Read on All of This

Opinion

I think Trump's "cancer removed" and "about to surrender" lines are written for one audience: Americans at home who are not reading the follow-up. The victory narrative has to be kept alive because markets are sliding, poll numbers are falling, and the war he launched on February 28 is now two weeks old with no exit visible. The domestic story needs to be winning. So that is the story being told.

But I also think it is important to say this clearly: Iran is not surrendering. Not on Day 14. Not to a country that bombed 2,000 of its targets, killed its Supreme Leader, and then told the replacement he is "unacceptable" too. The regime appointed Mojtaba Khamenei knowing exactly how Washington would react. That is not the behavior of a government inching toward capitulation. That is a government signaling it will absorb the damage and keep going.

The Iranians want international guarantees this conflict will not resume, not a temporary pause they expect will break again. With no direct dialogue between Washington and Tehran, and with Trump hinting Mojtaba Khamenei should be killed too, Iran has no real reason to stand down. I do not know how this ends. I do not think anyone in Washington does either. That is the honest answer. And it is a much more dangerous place to be than "about to surrender."

Bottom Line

Trump's story and the ground reality are not the same story. His own G7 allies could not agree on what he wants. His own intelligence said the regime is not collapsing. Iran named a hardline successor and shut the strait. Day 14. Nobody's surrendering.
